We’re delighted to have teamed up with Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club to train thousands of people across the South East in how to do lifesaving CPR and use a defibrillator to help save lives ahead of this year’s national Restart a Heart Day (16 October).
Some of our doctors and paramedics recently visited the AMEX Stadium in Brighton and the club’s training ground to launch our `Restart a Heart with KSS’ campaign, showing some of the club’s players and Celebrity Ambassador Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) just how simple it is to learn CPR and how easy it could be to save the life of someone close to you who suffers a cardiac arrest.
We were joined by reporters from a range of media outlets including BBC South East, ITV Meridian, Sky Sports News, The Argus and local radio stations, which all helped to get the campaign off to a flying start.
Across Kent, Surrey and Sussex on average 24 people a day experience a cardiac arrest. 80% happen to people while they are at home. Tragically, only one in 10 people currently survive. But together, KSS and Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club want to change that. We know that everyone has the potential to save a life.
Ben Paul, our Education Manager said: “At KSS, we know that everyone has the potential to save a life. You just need to know how.
“This Restart a Heart Day, we want to train everyone in how to do CPR and use a defibrillator ahead of the emergency services arriving because this can more than double your loved one’s chance of survival in those first crucial moments.“
We are proud to be collaborating with the club to increase the number of people that know how to provide lifesaving CPR and defibrillation in our communities as part of a range of activities being we have arranged this Restart a Heart Day, Wednesday 16 October, and throughout that week.
KSS and Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club want as many people as possible to join our free 30-minute online live-streamed and pre-recorded training sessions, tailored to every age group, being delivered our highly skilled doctors and paramedics.
Our doctors and paramedics will also be out and about to provide in-person CPR and defibrillator training during the week:
- Monday 14 October: Gatwick Airport (Airside)
- Wednesday 16 October: Free training sessions livestreamed from Rochester Airport
- Friday 18 October: The Orchards Shopping Centre, Haywards Heath, Sussex
- Saturday 19 October: M25 Cobham Services, Surrey
- Sunday 20 October: RSAH at Bluewater Shopping Centre, Kent
Last year, we equipped 17,000 people in one day with these lifesaving skills and through this new collaboration it is hoped that tens of thousands more people will sign up to learn this year, helping to create an army of lifesavers across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
