Every patient we care for has a unique story, but they all share one thing in common: your support. The people you’ll read about below were impacted by the three most common incidents we attend. Isaac, a child critically injured in a road traffi c collision. Graham, a brother whose heart stopped without warning. Peter, a son who was seriously hurt in a cycling accident. These are the critical moments where, by buying raffle tickets today, you can help us bring specialist, lifesaving care to the scene when it’s needed most.

Every raffle ticket you buy helps us save more lives across Kent, Surrey and Sussex. Road traffic collisions, accidental injuries and medical emergencies are some of the most serious and life-threatening incidents we respond to, accounting for 75% of our 3,139 total call-outs last year.

Isaac's Story

“When Isaac was two, we were in a car accident near Tunbridge Wells. A car hit us from behind at some temporary lights. My partner and I were fine, but Isaac was knocked unconscious. He suffered a depressed skull fracture, and I can still picture the dent in his head. I was in such shock that I didn’t even hear the KSS helicopter land. It was awful to see him lying there as the KSS Team helped him to breathe, but as we took off in the helicopter, the paramedic kept giving me a thumbs-up. It was such a small gesture, but it helped reassure me that Isaac was safe. Thankfully, Isaac doesn’t remember the crash, but he knows just how much KSS helped him. We’re incredibly proud he’s a Young Ambassador for the charity, because KSS deserve our support. You never know when you might need them.”

Graham's Story

After playing a round of golf back in 2018, I knew something wasn’t right when I suddenly felt strange muscle spasms in my chest and arms. I was going into a cardiac arrest. Thanks to my brother who started CPR, the quick actions of fellow golfers, and the emergency services, I was kept alive until the KSS Team arrived. They gave me further lifesaving treatment at the scene and flew me quickly to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford. I didn’t really know where I was, but when my wife, Sarah, arrived at the hospital and gave me a tearful kiss, my emotions exploded like a volcano. I said, “I’m sorry!” for all the worry I had caused. Ironically, I’ve always wanted to go in a helicopter, so I’m gutted I can’t remember my flight! But I’ll never forget how grateful I am that KSS were there for me when I needed them most.”

Peter's Story

In March 2013, I was critically injured in a cycling accident near Sevenoaks, coming off my bike on a steep hill. The KSS crew were called to the scene and I’m told I was unconscious with a significant head injury, a fractured collarbone and ribs. My right lung had collapsed and was starting to block my airway. KSS gave me a general anaesthetic to help control my breathing and prevent my brain injury from worsening. The KSS Team flew me to the major trauma centre at King’s College Hospital in London in just 16 minutes. Since my accident, I’ve volunteered and raised money for KSS. Being involved with them helps me look forward, not back. Thanks to supporters like you, KSS was there to help me. I simply wouldn’t be here without them. Every raffle ticket you buy today makes a difference and helps save more lives.
