Inspirational fundraiser Steve Wolfe, from Newington, Kent, has passed a major milestone in his challenge to run an incredible 40,075km, a distance equivalent to circumnavigating the globe.
Steve, who is raising funds for our lifesaving charity, has now been running for over 3,000 consecutive days as of Tuesday 18 March with his latest run of 30km from Newington to St Mary’s Island and back.
Having started his epic challenge on 31 December 2016, Steve reached the half-way point in November 2023 and hopes to complete the distance by the end of 2026.
Steve was inspired to support us after he became part of the `chain of survival’ by giving CPR to a fellow parkrun participant who had a cardiac arrest and was cared for by a team from KSS.
As part of his virtual circumnavigation of the globe, Steve has embarked on a series of remarkable challenges to support KSS:
- To celebrate his 50th birthday he ran 50 half marathons in 50 days.
- He ran the `World’s Worst Marathon’, which involved running 63 laps of a 670m circuit near his home.
- Completing a 64km `base to base’ run between the KSS airbase at Redhill Aerodrome and the charity HQ at Rochester Airport.
Steve’s dedication and passion have raised vital funds and awareness to help support our critical lifesaving work.
After finishing his 3,000th run Steve said: “There’s still a long way to go but having completed 3,000 runs in a row I’m confident of completing my `Round the World’ challenge next year. There have been some really difficult days when the weather has been against me. Knowing I am doing this for KSS, which provides such a critical lifesaving service, and one I have seen at first hand, is all the inspiration I need to get out the door and start running each day. I’m so grateful to all the people who have sponsored me. Every pound matters for this amazing cause.”
After greeting Steve with some brownies as he finished his 3,000th run, Lola Inge, our Running and Challenge Manager, commented:
“Many of our supporters have gone the extra mile to support KSS but, as far as we know, nobody has put in quite as many miles as Steve!
“He really is an inspirational fundraiser and it’s fantastic to see him pass another key milestone on the way to completing his epic round the world challenge. We’re all so incredibly grateful to him for his extraordinary efforts and the incredible difference he is making in helping us to save even more lives.”
