Dear parent
Did you know?
- Across Kent, Surrey and Sussex around 25 people a day have a sudden cardiac arrest at home or out and about in the community
- Most (74%) happen at home or a private address. So, one day you might experience it happen to a family member, loved one or friend
- Tragically only 1 in 10 people currently survive
- Starting CPR and using a defibrillator in the first crucial minutes before the emergency services arrive can more than double your loved one’s chance of survival
That’s why we’re teaming up with our local air ambulance, Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS), [again this year] to ensure all children, parents, and whole school community, have the skills and confidence to provide CPR and use a defibrillator.
On national Restart a Heart Day, Thursday 16 October, we’re taking part in Restart a Heart with KSS to learn these vital lifesaving skills with their expert paramedics and doctors in school – and hopefully you’ll play your part at home too!
Children’s learning in school
Children will be learning in assembly/classroom activities via online live-stream training sessions with KSS in an age-appropriate way with their soft toys [soft toys (younger children)/pillow or rolled up jumper (older children)] bought in from home as their pretend patient
Parent and child, and whole family, learning at home
It’s really important that parents, and other family members, learn too. Please join the special live-stream Parent and Child training session so that you can learn together at home as a family, or even with friends and neighbours. Recorded versions of the sessions are also available for you to watch at a time that suits you.
