We are delighted to have celebrated the dedication and impact of volunteers at our annual Volunteersโ Celebration event, held on Thursday 4 June at the Mercure Maidstone Great Danes Hotel.
Now in its third year, the event – held during national Volunteersโ Week (1 – 7 June) – brought together more than 60 volunteers, making it the largest ever gathering of Team KSS volunteers.
The day was dedicated to recognising the vital role volunteers play in supporting KSS to deliver lifesaving pre-hospital emergency care across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of Long Service Awards, recognising volunteers who have dedicated between five and 25 years of service to our charity, reflecting the depth of commitment across Team KSS.
Guests heard from speakers, including His Majestyโs Lord-Lieutenant of Kent, Lady Colgrain, and members of our Senior Leadership Team, including KSS Chief Executive David Welch. During the event Felicity Hook spoke movingly about becoming a volunteer after her husband received lifesaving care from KSS following a cardiac arrest.
There was an opportunity to see a KSS helicopter up close and enjoy an afternoon tea together as part of the celebrations.
Speaking at the event, David Welch, Chief Executive of KSS, said: โVolunteers are, and always will be, at the very heart of our charity. Their devotion, commitment and generosity enable us to continue supporting our communities and delivering lifesaving care to patients when every second counts.
We simply could not do what we do without our amazing volunteers and today is about recognising and celebrating the incredible difference they make.โ
His Majestyโs Lord-Lieutenant of Kent, Lady Colgrain, added: โIt is an honour to join KSS in celebrating its volunteers. Across Kent and beyond, volunteers give their time so selflessly, and their impact on communities is immeasurable.
The work of Team KSS volunteers is truly inspiring and plays a vital role in supporting this lifesaving service.โ
Over the past year, KSS volunteers have contributed thousands of hours supporting fundraising, raising awareness, delivering community talks, and helping to ensure we can continue operating one of the worldโs leading Helicopter Emergency Medical Services.
With more than 174 volunteers now part of Team KSS, our team of volunteers is continuing to grow, with new volunteers always welcome. For more information about becoming a volunteer, visit the our volunteering page.
