Team KSS cycle from Redhill to Rochester alongside inspirational supporter and MP

On Friday 28th April, our CEO David Welch, Patient and Family Aftercare Lead Stu Plumbley, and MP for Chatham and Aylesford, Tracey Crouch, will undertake a 65km cycle challenge alongside the father of a KSS patient who is raising funds for our charity in memory of his daughter, who sadly passed away last year.

David, Stu, Tracey and Colin Williams will cycle from our Redhill base to our Rochester headquarters. David and Tracey are cycling to support Colin, who is hoping to raise £3,945, which is just over the average cost of one of our missions.

Colin’s daughter, Aimee, was involved in a Road Traffic Collision in East Grinstead in March 2022. KSS attended the incident but, very sadly, Aimee passed away at the scene. In November last year, Colin and his family visited our base to meet members of our crew, and Aimee’s friends, Jodie and Olivia, who were also involved in the incident, have visited too. They took comfort from the visit, hearing how Aimee was cared for in her final moments.

With incredible courage and generosity, Colin is now supporting us through this extraordinary challenge. We are extremely grateful, and we also want to thank Jodie and Olivia who, earlier this month, took part in the Brighton 10K for our charity. To date, £7,993.67 has been raised in memory of Aimee.

Colin Williams said: “My daughter Aimee was killed in a car accident on 28th March 2022. KSS attended the accident and did all they could for my beautiful girl. My wife, Wendy, daughter Mollie and I met the amazing crew and the charity’s Chief Executive, David, and they gave us great comfort. We have resolved as a family to do what we can to raise money for them.”

Tracey Crouch MP said: “I knew Aimee well – she lived a few doors away and her family are our friends. I still cannot believe that a year ago she was so tragically ripped away from the Williams’ family and all Aimee’s friends.

“The strength of the family is remarkable and their gratitude to the crew has encouraged them to make it their mission to raise money for KSS. Riding alongside Colin to support him in this challenge will be an honour.”

David Welch, KSS CEO, said: “Colin and his family are an inspiration, and on behalf of everyone at Team KSS, I convey our heartfelt sympathy.”

“I also want to give sincere thanks to Colin, Jodie, and Olivia and to everyone who has donated to our charity in memory of Aimee. We cannot do what we do without the support we receive from our communities, and supporting our patients’ families is part of this. Thank you all.”

Colin, Tracey, Stu, and David plan to set off from our base at Redhill Aerodrome at 10am on 28th April and to arrive in Rochester at approximately 3pm. To donate to this challenge, please visit Colin’s Just Giving page.
