Our exciting new competition is giving young people the opportunity to name our two lifesaving air ambulance helicopters, as part of our current ‘Buy it for Life’ urgent appeal.
Our `Name Your Local Air Ambulance’ competition is free to enter, and we want every school and youth group in Kent, Surrey and Sussex to take part to be in with the chance of naming one of our helicopters, which are a lifeline for the people right across the region.
A panel of judges will pick the winning names which will be proudly displayed on the helicopters
meaning the winning schools or youth groups will be a part of every lifesaving mission.
Entering the competition is quick and easy. Schools and youth groups just need to come up with their
chosen name and simply complete their entry form at aakss.org.uk/NameOurHeli by Friday 24 May
(a limit of one entry per school class or youth group applies).
The winners will also get their school or youth group name on the helicopter and enjoy a special flyover
and a visit from a KSS paramedic. A further five schools or youth groups in each county will win a visit
from a paramedic and younger winners will also have a visit from Skye, our adorable mascot.
The competition is part of our Buy it for Life urgent appeal, which is calling on everyone across Kent, Surrey and Sussex to help us raise the final £1M to purchase, instead of lease, our second lifesaving helicopter by the end of May saving us around half a million pounds a year. This saving will enable us to fly for six more hours a day, meaning our specialist lifesaving crews can reach more patients and save even more lives.
We are encouraging schools and youth groups to join with their communities and fundraise for the appeal through dress down days, bake sales or any other great ideas the schools may have. Every single penny will count, and those that donate £100 or more will have the unique opportunity to have their school name on the newly purchased air ambulance.
Helene Poursain, our Head of Public Fundraising, said: “We can’t wait to read all the wonderful names that we’re sure the young people of Kent, Surrey and Sussex will come up with as they unleash their creativity and enter our exciting competition.
“I know we’re going to receive so many brilliant and memorable names and it’s going to be a very difficult decision for our panel of judges to pick the two that our helicopters will become affectionately known as.”
