We were delighted to welcome more than 40 influential Kent Ambassadors to our charity headquarters at Rochester Airport.
Kent Ambassadors are a group of highly successful and experienced individuals who live or work in Kent. They have come together, by invitation, in a voluntary capacity to help all aspects of life in Kent. Currently the group numbers around 100. Their mission is to use the enthusiasm, energy and experience they have shown as leaders in their own spheres to promote Kent positively and widely.
Each month they visit charities and businesses around Kent to learn what they are doing in the community and what the Kent Ambassadors can do to raise awareness and income.
During an introductory presentation the Kent Ambassadors were shown a video telling the powerful story of former KSS patient Noel Miles whose life was saved by KSS in 2019 following a road traffic collision in which he received life-changing injuries.
David Welch, Kent Ambassador and our Chief Executive said: “It was a tremendous and memorable day. My fellow Kent Ambassadors commented on how incredible the day was and how much they got from speaking to my colleagues from Team KSS and all the learnings they took away with them.
“It is hard to demonstrate just how amazing KSS is within a few hours, but we did it. One of the Ambassadors commented that he could feel the positive culture of KSS, and how passionate and proud Team KSS are, which is amazing to hear.”
Our expert doctors and paramedics demonstrated some of the advanced pre-hospital medicine delivered by our crews every day. They had a chance to learn CPR from crew members following an update on our work for Restart a Heart Day in October, which saw us create an army of lifesavers across the communities we serve as 80,000 people took part in online and face to face CPR sessions.
There was an opportunity to meet our KSS Patient and Family Aftercare Team which provides ongoing care and support for former patients and their families as well as bereaved families, and a chance to meet former patients who have been cared for by us. The Kent Ambassadors were also honoured to meet a former patient and bereaved families during their visit.
The morning ended with a chance to take a look around one of the our highly advanced AW169 helicopters and a Volvo XC90 Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV). RRVs are used when the helicopters are unable to fly because of weather conditions or mechanical issues.
