High Sheriffs see first-hand how KSS delivers critical care across the region

We were delighted to welcome the High Sheriffs of Kent, Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex to our operational base at Redhill Aerodrome on Wednesday 30 September, offering a unique opportunity to learn more about our life-saving work across the region.

The visit brought together Martin Lukehurst, High Sheriff of Kent, Joosje Hamilton DL, High Sheriff of Surrey, Gary Shipton DL, High Sheriff of West Sussex, and Michael Bedingfield DL, High Sheriff of East Sussex. They were joined by Chris Shipton, wife of Gary Shipton and welcomed by members of Team KSS.

During their visit, the High Sheriffs received a presentation from KSS Chief Executive David Welch, before touring the charity’s operational facilities with Executive Director of Service Delivery Leigh Curtis. The visit provided an insight into the charity’s 24/7 emergency service, including the advanced care provided by KSS doctors and paramedics, the helicopters and rapid response vehicles used to reach patients, and the specialist training and preparation that underpins every mission.

Serving the communities of Kent, Surrey and Sussex, KSS responds to some of the most serious medical emergencies, bringing the expertise of a hospital emergency department directly to the scene. The visit enabled the High Sheriffs to see first-hand how the charity works in partnership with NHS ambulance services, hospitals and emergency service colleagues to give critically ill and injured patients the best possible chance of survival and recovery.

Paul Sandford, Head of Major Gifts at KSS, said: “We were honoured to welcome the High Sheriffs of Kent, Surrey, East Sussex and West Sussex to our operational base and share more about the lifesaving work carried out by our crews every day.

“Their visit provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the dedication, expertise and commitment of our people, and to demonstrate how charitable support enables us to be there whenever and wherever we are needed. We are grateful for their interest in our service and their continued commitment to supporting the communities we all serve.”

Following the presentation and tour, the visitors had the opportunity to meet members of Team KSS and gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities involved in delivering world-class pre-hospital emergency care across the diverse communities of Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
