Our popular series of Heli Hike fundraising events came to a brilliant conclusion with Heli Hike at Night in Mote Park Maidstone, on Saturday 25 October.
Over two hundred people, many in fancy dress and adorned with glow stick and flashing accessories walked 2.5 or 5 miles under the stars in a memorable evening of lights and laughter, raising over £9K to support our lifesaving charity’s work. This years’ Heli Hikes have now raised a total of over £49K.
This money will help keep our doctors and paramedics flying 24/7 to bring hospital-level critical care to those who need it most — wherever and whenever it’s required.
Along the way, walkers were able to enjoy party zones complete with music, sweet treats, selfie stations, a Halloween spectacular and more. Many chose to wear personal messages on their T-shirts to pay tribute to a loved one, say thank you to KSS or simply offer support for the cause.
At the finish line some walkers added their thoughts to a KSS Memory Board, a powerful reminder of why every step matters. The Heli Hikers were able to celebrate with a hot chocolate and a well-deserved commemorative medal. Thanks to the Rapid Relief Team they could enjoy a complimentary burger and soft drink.
Every mile walked, every pound raised, helps us to deliver urgent care — from blood transfusions to heart surgery — directly to the scene. We operate 24/7, 365 days a year, but we can’t do it without public support.
KSS Events Manager Warren Porritt said: “It was fantastic to see so many people joining us for this very special event. Everyone who came had an amazing evening, and by taking part they’ve supported a truly lifesaving cause as well as making some wonderful memories.
“Although our Heli Hikes are over for this year, we’re excited about our forthcoming series of very special Christmas Carol concerts. These begin at Canterbury Cathedral on Monday 1 December, and they will each be magical evenings full of festive spirit.”
