We’re delighted to be celebrating the news that Tim Bell, one of our longest-serving and most dedicated supporters, has been named ITV Meridian Pride of Britain Fundraiser of the Year and he goes forward to the national awards later this year.
Retired engineer Tim has cleverly converted a mobility scooter into a fundraising helicopter, complete with lights, music and a smoke machine.
He is a familiar face across our region and particularly his home area of Sheerness where he can regularly be found fundraising at events and outside his local supermarket.
Over the last few years he has raised an incredible sum of nearly £60K for our lifesaving charity.
Tim says his aim is to make people smile, and he certainly does that as he dances around his creation to attract donations.
Another of Tim’s mobility scooter creations is a model of the Sheerness clock tower.
On Friday 20 September a group of Team KSS members, including our Chief Executive David Welch, were at Tesco Sheerness to see Tim receive a surprise visit from ITV presenter Matt Teale.
Some subterfuge was needed to keep the surprise from Tim, involving Team KSS hiding behind cars in the carpark but it was well worth it to see the delight on Tim’s face as he received his richly deserved award.
We’re so pleased that Tim’s tireless efforts have been recognised in such a fantastic and exciting way and wish him the best of luck at the national awards.
