We bring Civic and Community Leaders together to champion lifesaving support

We were delighted to welcome civic and community leaders from across theย South Eastย to our Redhill and Rochester bases this week forย twoย special eventsย focused onย workingย even moreย closely togetherย toย strengthen community resilience andย increaseย supportย โ€“ย helping to save more lives and ensureย the best possible patient outcomes.ย

Mayors,ย Deputy Mayors, Councilย Leaders and Business Improvement Districtย Leaders,ย as well as other local representatives,ย metย members of Team KSS.ย Togetherย theyย examinedย how collaborative action canย improveย emergency preparednessย withinย ourย communities,ย as well asย help ensure weย canย continueย toย deliver our vitalย service across the regionย through increasing awarenessย and support.ย ย

Attendees gained a unique insight into the frontline operation ofย the only emergency air ambulance serving Kent,ย Surreyย and Sussex,ย andย metย doctors,ย paramedicsย and pilots,ย as theyย touredย theย our bases.ย

Discussions centred on practical opportunities for collaboration,ย andย includedย CPR and defibrillator training, as wellย asย the chance to meet aย formerย KSS patient,ย alongside our Patient and Family Aftercareย Service team members.ย

Leaders also heard how they can make a tangible lifesaving difference in their communities every day by choosing KSS as their Charity of the Year partner. Choosing to support KSS in this way helps fund lifesaving missions, while engaging staff and communities through meaningful fundraising, as well as enhancing local safety with CPR and defibrillator training.

ย In 2024/25*, weย responded toย over 3,100ย incidents,ย an average of nine every dayย at a cost ofย aroundย ยฃ57kย eachย day.ย Asย anย independent charity,ย every lifesaving missionย we make isย almost entirelyย funded through the kindness and generosity of supporters within our communitiesย โ€“ย raising the vital funds we need to keep flying and saving lives.ย ย

David Welch, our Chief Executive, ย said:ย โ€œWeโ€™re proud to be working ever more closely alongside civic, community and business leaders from within our communities in our shared commitment to saving lives and ensuring best possible patient outcomes. Together we can strengthen local resilience by helping communities be more prepared for a medical emergency, so that everyone can play their part in giving patients the best chance of survival ahead of the arrival of the emergency services and KSS. Through increased awareness and support, community leaders can also help raise the vital funds we need to be here 24/7 for the most suddenly critically injured and unwell people โ€“ ready to respond when every second counts.โ€

David added:ย โ€œWorking so closely together in this way is crucial if we are to achieve our vision of an end to preventable loss of life from medical emergency. We know we canโ€™t achieve this alone. Thatโ€™s why this weekโ€™s events mark an important step towards building a better future, while helping to increase awareness and support โ€“ keeping us flying and saving lives.โ€
