Welcome to the Civic and Community Leaders' Circle Portal
“Your leadership ensures our service is visible, supported, and ready to reach patients when every second counts.”
Welcome from our Chief Executive
“Welcome to the Civic and Community Leaders’ Circle Portal. Every day our crews respond to patients facing sudden, critical injury or illness. None of this is possible without the support of our communities, and your leadership makes a real difference.
This portal gives you practical tools to help champion KSS: raising awareness, supporting CPR training, and making our service more visible in your community.
My hope is that you feel inspired and empowered as a member of our Civic and Community Leaders’ Circle, ready to:
- Use your voice and networks to raise awareness of our vital work and help generate the support needed to keep your local air ambulance flying in your communities.
- Advocate for policy decisions that strengthen our clinical and aviation capabilities, ensuring we can reach more patients and give everyone the best possible chance of survival.
- Empower people in your communities to learn lifesaving skills, like CPR and how to use a defibrillator, so they can help make the difference when it matters most.
By stepping into our Circle, you are already helping to build stronger, safer, more compassionate communities. Together, we can save more lives and deliver the very best outcomes for patients across Kent, Surrey and Sussex, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
David Welch, Chief Executive, KSS

[Name, civic position held or organisation] has pledged their support for Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex Air Ambulance (KSS) after attending the charity’s Civic and Community Leaders’ Circle event on [date] at its Redhill Aerodrome/Rochester Airport base.
KSS saves lives and provides the best possible patient outcomes for people who suddenly become seriously injured or critically ill across Kent, Surrey and Sussex day and night, 365 days a year. The charity’s air ambulance helicopters are like flying emergency rooms, bringing the hospital to the patient when every second counts for survival.
It costs £57k a day to operate the vital service with the charity responding to around nine emergency calls each day, each one almost entirely funded through public support.
As a new member of the Civic and Community Leaders’ Circle [Name] has committed to raising awareness of the lifesaving work of KSS and encouraging greater community support. This includes helping to raise awareness and support for KSS and playing an important part in building an army of lifesavers across the South East by ensuring as many people as possible are trained in how to give CPR and use a defibrillator to help save even more lives.
Optional paragraph:
As part of the collaboration [Leader/Organisation] is proud to announce that they have chosen to support KSS through a Charity of the Year partnership This type of partnership enables organisations to make a measurable difference by helping to fund lifesaving missions through fundraising activities as well as engaging staff in meaningful community CPR initiatives. This also demonstrates visible commitment to public safety across [insert area]. Such partnerships play a significant role in keeping KSS flying and ensuring its crews can continue delivering lifesaving care whenever it is needed most.
[Insert leader name] said: “KSS is an extraordinary charity providing the only air ambulance service for the people of [insert], delivering hospital-level treatment and care to the most critically injured and unwell patients. I’m so proud to help support their incredible lifesaving work in my communities so that we can jointly save even more lives and keep more families and loved ones together”
The highly skilled team of doctors and paramedics at KSS perform lifesaving procedures - like open-heart surgery, blood transfusions, and emergency anaesthetic - right at the scene, giving patients the best chance of survival.
David Welch, KSS Chief Executive, said: “Our vision is for an end to preventable loss of life from medical emergency, and we know we can only achieve this by working closely with our communities. With the majority of our income funded by public support, we’re committed to working together with community leaders, local organisations and supporters to raise awareness of our lifesaving work and to build the support needed to reach even more patients and save even more lives.
“We also want to empower people locally to learn lifesaving skills such how to give CPR and use a defibrillator, skills that can make a crucial lifesaving difference in the minutes before expert help arrives.
“By strengthening these community collaborations, we can turn awareness into action and moments of crisis into stories of survival. Together, we will save even more lives.”

Quotes
“At KSS, we bring our expert clinical team of a doctor and a paramedic to the scene of an incident with the ability to deliver care at a level that historically was only available in hospitals.
“But that work has changed considerably over the years. Developments in medicine, often driven by KSS research, mean the emergency general anaesthetic we provide to the patients who need it is more refined and of ever higher quality – and care such as pre-hospital blood transfusions have revolutionised what we can do for our patients.
“Year on year, we’re delivering more of these specialist interventions to the people who need them most, precisely when they need them.
“KSS is committed to ensuring we evolve what we can deliver to best serve the needs of our community. We’re investing in increasing our capacity to deliver innovative care to patients in cardiac arrest, to create as many survivors as possible, as well as educating the local community in the essential skill of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). By utilising on-scene sophisticated blood pressure monitoring and by exploring the potential of using Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO – a heart-lung pump) we’re pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved for our cardiac arrest patients.”
Doctor Duncan Bootland,
KSS Medical Director
“Every day our crews carry out around nine lifesaving missions. We’re called to patients who are critically injured in accidents such as road traffic collisions, or those suddenly struck by life-threatening conditions such as cardiac arrest or stroke. Every one of these missions is funded almost entirely by the generosity of the people within our communities.”
