Celebrating Team KSS #PeopleCentred

At Team KSS, people are at the heart of everything we do. From our patients and their families, to whom we are dedicated to providing our very best treatment and care, to our supporters, whose generosity means we can continue to #CareTheKSSWay, and to our incredible volunteers whose passion and commitment inspires us every day.

Our team are driven by our purpose every minute of every day as we proudly provide 24/7 care. We would like to you meet some of the incredible people who make up Team KSS.

Mina Him joined Team KSS in 2019 and is passionate about providing an outstanding service to our hugely dedicated and inspiring supporters. Mina, along with our Supporter Experience Team as a whole makes sure we provide supporters with everything they need from us, communicating with them frequently so they are up to date with all things KSS. Mina especially enjoys ensuring our supporters are aware of our sincere thanks and appreciation.

“Hello, my name is Mina and I work in the Supporter Engagement Team. Our team care for our wonderful supporters, conveying our appreciation for their kindness and advocating for them every step of their journey with us. I recently joined our Team KSS Equality, Diversity and Inclusion group, which I see as another chance to empathise and advocate by adopting a people-centred approach.”

Lara is one of our highly skilled paramedics who helps to ensure the best possible care and outcomes our patients.

“Hi, my name’s Lara, I joined KSS in August 2019, having previously worked for the London Ambulance Service. Working as a Paramedic at KSS has been a fantastic opportunity. If I had to pick the best thing about the role, I think it would be being part of a system that has the patient at the heart of everything we do. I feel privileged to be able to provide the best care possible for patients in their time of need.”

Team KSS also includes our staff working tirelessly in the ‘engine room’ of our organisation, including our Governance, Finance, Facilities, Communications and HR Teams.

Josh Witham is one of our Finance Assistants, within our busy Finance Team. He joined Team KSS in 2019.

“It costs more than £15M a year to run our life-saving service and as a Finance Team we identify, process and account for our valuable funds, which are made up of several income streams ranging from fundraising and lotteries to the gifts supporters leave us in legacies. We also keep an overview of expenses from helicopter fuel down to the smallest of items such as tea bags! Everything that comes through KSS will at some point come through us.

Keeping this going throughout the four quarters of the year could not be done without the dedicated team we have, from the day to day bookkeeping and controls, through to the production of the management accounts, we’re here to support all of the people who make up Team KSS.”

Let us not forget our fantastic volunteers, who go above and beyond in their support of KSS. Some of their activities have been on pause throughout the past turbulent year but they have continued to support us in alternative ways.

Myra Baston is one of our team of 180 volunteers, who inspire and generate support from people across our region through delivering talks to groups and clubs.

“My first talk was at Leatherhead, to a group of mechanical engineers with their own little steam train. I’ve also given talks to Scouts and Girl Guides, Women’s Institutes, marine engineers, church groups, some stitchery people and more – places I would never have otherwise gone to and some very interesting and caring people I would never have met. I live near to Redhill and often see our KSS crews going over. I feel very proud that I’m able to play a part in supporting Team KSS.”

People truly are at the heart of all we do and we are so thankful to every member of Team KSS who ensure we can continue delivering pre-hospital critical care to patients experiencing medical emergency 24/7, 365 days a year.

We’ll be celebrating our People Centred approach across the next few months, which you can keep up to date with by searching #PeopleCentred #CaringTheKSSWay on social media.
