Colin and Wendy Williams

In March 2022, our daughter Aimee Williams, 30, from Aylesford, Kent, was returning from a weekend away with friends when their car was involved in a serious road traffic collision in Cowfold, West Sussex.

Despite the tireless efforts of clinical crews from Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS), Aimee sadly did not survive her injuries. Two helicopters attended the scene, and although Aimee was cared for and taken to hospital, she later passed away.

She was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

We got a phone call from a friend to say the police were at Aimeeโ€™s door. We went straight away and they told us she had died in a car accident earlier that day.โ€

In the days and weeks that followed, as a family we were searching for answers. It was through contact with KSS and the Patient and Family Aftercare Team that they we were able to better understand what had happened.

It was a big burden off our shoulders. We heard about the care Aimee received and it was so comforting to meet the crew and learn what they did for her.

The support we received helped us process our loss and feel connected to the care Aimee had received.

Remembering Aimee

Aimee was a vibrant, warm and fiercely loyal person who brought joy to everyone around her. She was a social butterfly. She always made time for her friends and family and could have us crying with laughter with her stories.

She worked as airline cabin crew, a job she loved, and often entertained her family with stories from her travels.

She had an absolute heart of gold and would do anything for anybodyโ€ฆ but she wouldnโ€™t tolerate fools.

To our daughter Mollie, Aimee’s sister, she was also a protector. She called Aimee her bodyguard, she was always there for her.

In Aimeeโ€™sย memory,ย weย establishedย a KSS Bluebell Tribute Fund and have organised a wide range of fundraising activities, including annual memorial cycle rides, quiz nights and community events.ย ย

As a family weโ€™re passionate about raising awareness of the importance of aftercare support for bereaved families. Itโ€™s not always a happy ending. The aftercare support we received has been so important. Before KSS, we felt like just a number.

The KSS Patient and Family Aftercare service supports former patient, family members of a former patients, bereaved family members, bystanders and emergency service colleagues. If thereโ€™s anything you think they can support you with please get in touch by clicking here.

Our patients are at the centre of what we do.

There is nothing more heart-warming for our team than when a former patient gets in touch and wants to visit us. If you, or a family member, has been a patient of ours and would like to get in touch, we would love to hear from you.ย
