Chief Executive
An Honours graduate of the University of Glasgow, after a successful initial career in retail management David joined the not-for-profit sector at a senior level, pursuing his ambition to work in international aid and development. David is well used to overcoming adversity in the toughest and most challenging of environments
After 12 years David then became Director of Fundraising and Communications at Highland Hospice and in 2010 Director of Fundraising and Deputy Chief Executive at Yorkhill Children’s Charity (now Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity) prior to becoming Chief Executive at Beatson Cancer Charity in 2013. As the inaugural Chief Executive, he was the driving force behind the rapid growth of one of Scotland’s most successful and highest profile charities.
In 2017 David moved to Leeds as the first Chief Executive of Leeds Hospital Charitable Foundation, which he has transformed into Leeds Cares. Working in partnership with Leeds Teaching Hospitals, he supported the transition of one of the largest NHS Trusts in the UK to one of the best performing, supporting a collaborative approach to delivering the best possible health and wellbeing for the wider community. In August 2019, inspired by regional air ambulance services, David took up the role of Chief Executive with Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex, one of the world’s leading air ambulance and emergency medical services.
David is strategically and politically aware and commercially focused with a creative business flair and an emphasis on detail and quality. As a visionary, entrepreneurial and inspirational leader he is a team player with the ability and confidence to inspire and influence others. Passionate and determined to make a positive impact on the lives and welfare of others, David believes in the increasingly vital role philanthropy plays in ensuring the highest standards and equitable provision of care and support for all.
